On April 3, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov received a delegation led by State Minister for Foreign Affairs for International Affairs of the Republic of Uganda Henry Oryem Okello.
Axar.az informs that during the meeting, the current state and development prospects of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Uganda were discussed in detail. Satisfaction was expressed with the rapid development of relations over the past 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that Azerbaijan attaches special importance to the development of relations with Uganda and, in general, with African countries, and noted the importance of effectively utilizing the existing potential to expand cooperation with Uganda. In this context, opportunities for cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, agriculture, energy, tourism, and education were reviewed. The opening of Public Service Centers operating in Uganda based on the “ASAN service” model was appreciated.
The parties noted the importance of promoting investment opportunities, expanding ties between business circles, and implementing joint projects.
During the meeting, special attention was paid to issues of cooperation within international organizations. In this context, it was emphasized that interaction within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement, including cooperation within the chairmanship institution and the “troika” mechanism of the Movement, is beneficial, and the importance of continuing mutual support on multilateral platforms was highlighted.
It was noted with satisfaction that Ugandan students benefit from educational opportunities in Azerbaijan’s higher education institutions within the framework of international scholarship programs provided by Azerbaijan, including programs intended for member states of the Non-Aligned Movement.
An exchange of views was held on regional and international security issues, as well as global challenges.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed the other side about the past conflict, the current situation in the region in the post-conflict period, restoration and reconstruction efforts, as well as steps taken toward advancing the peace agenda.
During the meeting, the parties also reviewed other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
On the same day, political consultations were held between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Uganda. The consultations were led by Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Yalchin Rafiyev and State Minister for Foreign Affairs for International Affairs of Uganda Henry Oryem Okello.
