Erdogan to visit Russia in near future

Preparations are underway for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to Russia, which is expected to take place in the near future, but no dates have been set yet, Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

Axar.az reports citing TASS.

"We are making preparations for such a visit that will take place in the near future, if not very soon. However, no dates have been set yet," he said.

Turkey’s Anadolu news agency reported earlier that Erdogan planned to visit Russia in January. According to the agency, the Turkish and Russian leaders are expected to discuss a wide range of issues, including the situation in Syria and the contract for the supply of the S-400 missile systems to Turkey.

In late December 2018, a Turkish delegation led by the foreign and defense ministers held talks with senior Russian officials in Moscow. The parties discussed the situation in Syria and Washington’s plans to pull troops out of the country. Turkish top diplomat Mevlut Cavusoglu said following the talks that Ankara was determined to continue close cooperation with Moscow as far as the Syria issue went.
