Biased and unfair statements of the European Union are considered as interference in the internal affairs of Azerbaijan.

Axar.az reports that the press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Aykhan Hajizade, informed the media about the European Union's speech on September 11 regarding the public statement of the Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT) of the Council of Europe. he said in response to the question.

"As the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we have provided a detailed statement reflecting our position on the public statement of the ICAC on July 4, 2024. It is unacceptable for the European Union to make biased statements referring to this public statement again, and we strongly reject this smear campaign.

Instead of making such baseless statements against our country, we recommend the other party to pay attention to human rights violations in EU member states.

The EU side has not yet investigated the killing of protestors in the "yellow jackets" action in France, the torture of the local population in overseas territories as a result of France's neo-colonial policy, the spread of bribery and corruption in the EU structures, Islamophobia and attacks against Muslims, and the EU side has not responded adequately to these problems.

We also note with regret that the EU's indifference to the violation of fundamental rights and freedoms of people in Armenia, which is the patronage of the EU, to the cases of people arrested as a result of political persecution losing their lives in prisons, as well as to the persecution of politicians and their family members, is a clear example of double standards. .

Against the background of the mentioned, such biased and unfair statements of the EU are considered as interference in the internal affairs of Azerbaijan. Especially, this slander campaign conducted against Azerbaijan on the eve of the COP29 event is a clear example of prejudice against our country.

All the rights of people are protected in Azerbaijan, in addition to the protection of persons deprived of their freedom, significant progress is being made in the field of adaptation of relevant practice to generally accepted international standards, and the claims of the European Union in this regard are completely groundless," A. Hajizadeh said.

It should be noted that during the meeting of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe on September 11, the European Union (EU) made a critical speech regarding Azerbaijan, referring to the public statement of the Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (ICPT) dated July 3.
