The Human Rights Commissioner, Sabina Aliyeva, has commented on the decision of the International Court of Justice to examine Azerbaijan's international legal claims against Armenia, including facts related to Armenia's mine threat.
Axar.az reports that the Ombudsman emphasized that as a result of Armenia's occupation and ethnic cleansing policies pursued for many years, more than one million Azerbaijanis' fundamental rights and freedoms, as defined in international legal documents, have been violated, international law and international humanitarian law norms and principles have been grossly violated, and war crimes have been committed. She pointed out that the legal steps taken internationally to restore the rights and freedoms of Azerbaijanis, which have been continuously violated for decades, are extremely important in ensuring justice.
The Human Rights Commissioner considers the decision of the International Court of Justice to review Azerbaijan's legal claim against Armenia and facts related to Armenia's mine terrorism, despite Armenia's objections, to be commendable. She also praised the Court's rejection of attempts by Armenia to remove Azerbaijan's valid claims regarding the placement of mines and mine traps in our territories during and after the occupation, viewing it as an important step toward restoring justice.
