The Trump administration is expected to make decisions regarding Iran within the next month. This was stated by Trump's national security advisor, Mike Waltz. Meanwhile, Iran has launched large-scale military exercises in response to these announcements.

Axar.az interviewed Russian political analyst Yevgeny Mikhailov about these developments:

- Is this connected to the growing tension in relations with Israel or Trump’s potential return to the U.S. presidency?

Israel has already stated that the ceasefire in Gaza is temporary and that it will continue fighting while benefiting from U.S. support. Naturally, Iran is Israel's main adversary in the region. The question is whether Washington will now escalate the situation, initiate a large-scale war in the Middle East, and give Israel the green light to attack Iran. In this context, Iran is, of course, preparing. Against this backdrop, Iran has begun preparing for war. However, we have long known that Iran, Israel, and the Americans often signal their intentions without taking any concrete action.

- Considering Trump’s desire to end all wars globally, could the U.S. take military action against Iran?

Trump’s desire to end all wars globally should be interpreted differently. It’s one thing for the U.S. president to make statements, and another to act on them; slogans are one thing, but protecting allies, namely Israel, and strengthening Israel in the Middle East is another. If actual military operations related to Iran occur in the Middle East, the situation could escalate to a point where the entire Arab world might rise up. The U.S. understands this very well, which is why it is unlikely they would destabilize the Middle East to such an extent. Iran can potentially satisfy the U.S., and America can hold back Israel in its approach to Iran. Currently, Iran, having lost certain capabilities, is not ready to fight on all fronts. It is possible to negotiate with Iran and exert pressure on it.Therefore, I believe that large-scale military actions, at least against Iran, are unlikely for now.

- Considering that Hezbollah has been weakened and Iran’s key partner in Syria, Bashar al-Assad, has been overthrown, how will the Tehran regime act if war breaks out, and who will it rely on?

I do not foresee a war, but in any case, Iran has an ally—Russia, no matter what. Of course, we will not engage in military actions for Iran, but I believe we will provide comprehensive support. In any case, Russia can act as a mediator between Israel, the U.S., and Iran. Because, again, no matter what, we have the capacity to communicate with Israel and with the new U.S. administration. If Iran is cornered, the war will engulf the entire Middle East. This is of no interest to anyone. Iran has the capability to ignite the entire region, understanding that certain forces threaten its statehood. And when a state is cornered, it fights back with great strength. Especially Iran, possessing various types of modern weaponry, specific capabilities, and allies, will fight until the end. Moreover, even Trump, who has stated that he wants fewer wars and more control and elevation of America, does not need such a situation.
