Araghchi, Wang Yi Meet in Beijing

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi held a meeting in Beijing on Wednesday to discuss bilateral relations and major regional and international issues.

Axar.az reports, citing Xinhua, during the meeting, Wang said the situation in the Middle East remains turbulent, posing a serious threat to international peace and development. He said China, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, is ready to play a constructive role in resolving international disputes.

Wang described China and Iran as comprehensive strategic partners and said Beijing is willing to strengthen dialogue and cooperation with Tehran and support Iran in safeguarding its legitimate rights and interests.

Araghchi briefed Wang on the latest developments in the Middle East and Gulf region, as well as Iran’s next steps. He said Tehran does not want the conflict to continue and hopes to pursue a diplomatic solution while defending its rights.

Araghchi said Iran considers the US-Iran memorandum of understanding to remain valid and has reached an agreement with Oman on a plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. He called on Washington to honor its commitments.

The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual concern.
