The Azerbaijani leadership expects an official peace agreement with Armenia to be concluded in 2026.
Axar.az reports that these thoughts were expressed by the Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan, Elchin Amirbekov, in a statement to journalists in Geneva.
According to him, this year will go down in history for the entire South Caucasus, and especially for Azerbaijan.
The diplomat attributes this to the fact that after almost thirty years of conflict, confrontation, and rivalry with neighboring Armenia, the parties are finally close to concluding an official peace agreement.
In this regard, he noted the important role of the August summit in Washington, which allowed for the confirmation of this peace, the closing of the page of hostility, and the beginning of a new future for the region.
"We believe that next year will also be very important, because it will allow us to formalize this peace agreement," he told journalists in Geneva.
It should be noted that on August 8, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a joint declaration following the results of a trilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump in Washington.
