Now such an issue is not a topic of discussion. I don't care. The result of international discussions on this topic is the expectation that an earthquake will occur in the Marmara region.
Axar.az reports that the famous Turkish geologist Naji Gorur said this while answering the question about whether the expected earthquake will happen in Istanbul.
"There have been a lot of seismic activities in the history of this region. We know from Byzantine and Ottoman history. There is no other group in Turkiye that studies this topic as much as we do. Not only Turks, but Italians, French, and Japanese also make statements.
The population density and the number of residential buildings are high in Istanbul. 60 per cent of the buildings are not equipped with seismic service. In the earthquake we expect, our losses may be higher. Logistics and location problems will arise. It may even be impossible for rescuers to come to the area," N. Gorur said.
