The appeal against the pre-trial detention of Ayaz Safarov, who was detained during an operation by Russian law enforcement targeting Azerbaijanis in Yekaterinburg on June 27, has been rejected.
Axar.az informs, citing APА, the Sverdlovsk Regional Court did not uphold Safarov’s appeal, and the decision of the first instance court has come into legal force.
The court confirmed that Ayaz Safarov will remain in custody.
By a ruling dated June 29, 2025, the Leninsky District Court of Yekaterinburg ordered that Ayaz Mohbali oglu Safarov be held in pre-trial detention until July 19, 2025. The investigative authorities have charged him under Article 105.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Murder committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy or by an organized group”).
As a reminder, on the morning of June 27, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) raided homes of Azerbaijanis in Yekaterinburg. During the raid, two people were killed and several others were injured.
