A prominent philanthropist of Azerbaijani descent may be deported from Russia due to a "threat to national security."

Axar.az reports that this was shared by E1.ru.

Tarlan Gasimov, head of the Azerbaijani diaspora in Arkhangelsk, has collaborated with the Russian government for many years and has engaged in charitable work, including sending money to the "special military operation" zone. However, this spring, he was stripped of Russian citizenship and is now at risk of deportation.

The decision regarding his "threat to national security" was made by the FSB. The decision to revoke Gasimov's citizenship is based on this document. Gasimov is not a citizen of Azerbaijan. He was registered in the RSFSR at the time of the dissolution of the Soviet Union.

Tarlan Gasimov has lived in Arkhangelsk since the early 2000s, where he has a family and personal business. In 2016, he began engaging in active public and charitable activities, leading the Azerbaijani diaspora in Arkhangelsk and working to strengthen ties between Azerbaijan and Russia.

In 2020, Governor Alexander Tsibulski awarded Tarlan Gasimov the title of "Benefactor of Arkhangelsk Oblast." In December 2023, the philanthropist received the region's major public award, the "Northern Property."
