Brazil's Supreme Court has lifted the ban on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), allowing it to resume operations in the country after it paid fines amounting to 28 million reals ($5.1 million) and complied with the court's demands.

Axar.az reports that the platform, owned by Elon Musk, had been previously blocked for not addressing accounts spreading misinformation about the 2022 Brazilian Presidential election. In response to this, many users had migrated to alternative platforms like Bluesky, and VPN usage surged in Brazil.

X has now met all the legal requirements, including appointing a local representative, which paved the way for its reinstatement. Brazil remains a significant market for X, with 22 million users, making it one of the largest platforms in Latin America.

Musk, who had criticized the court's earlier decision as a violation of free speech, reversed the company's non-compliance stance in September. X's government affairs team expressed their satisfaction, emphasizing the importance of reconnecting Brazilian users to the platform.

This development concludes a months-long standoff between Musk and Brazilian authorities.
