EU and 25 countries pledge to end new coal plants

As part of COP29, the EU and about 25 other countries pledged not to build new coal-fired power plants.

Axar.az reports that it is said to be the latest global commitment to reduce the use of this type of fuel.

The corresponding agreement was signed by Canada, England and Germany. The world's largest coal-consuming countries, China and India, as well as the United States, have so far ignored this document.

It should be recalled that a draft Agreement was prepared within the framework of the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), which envisages reducing the consumption and production of fossil fuels. These measures aim to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

Experts believe that the creation of new coal-fired power plants is one of the biggest threats to the goal of keeping the global temperature on Earth at 1.5 degrees Celsius.
