Azerbaijan commemorates the January 20 Tragedy in Israel

On January 20, a commemorative event dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the tragic events that took place on January 20, 1990, was held at the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the State of Israel.

Axar.az was told by the embassy that representatives of the Azerbaijani community living in Israel, including people who were witnesses of the events of January 20, took part in the event.

The event began with a minute's silence to remember those who died on the night of January 20. Later, ambassador Mukhtar Mammadov, president of AZIZ International Association Adam Amilov, and representatives of the Azerbaijani diaspora, who were witnesses of the events of January 20, made speeches in a discussion format.

Among the speakers, Shimon Peres worked in the emergency medical service on the night of January 20, Petr Lukimson was the editor of the "Elm" newspaper published in Baku at that time and one of the journalists covering the events. Viktoriya Dolinskaya, the former editor of the socio-political broadcasting department of Azerbaijan State Radio, and her colleagues were among the journalists who were attacked by Soviet tanks that night but managed to escape.
