More than 1,000 Russian citizens have been evacuated from Iran, Israel and Iraq due to the increase in tensions in the Middle East. Russian citizens left Iran mainly through Azerbaijan, Armenia and Turkmenistan.
Axar.az reports that this was stated by the spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
"In total, since June 14 this year, evacuations have been organized for more than 1,000 people - family members of employees of Russian foreign missions, delegations, creative groups, personnel of business entities, our tourists, compatriots. About nine hundred people have left Iran, of course, the figures will be clarified. Routes have been prepared through the Astara border checkpoint in Azerbaijan, Agarak in Armenia and Bacagiran in Turkmenistan. More than 130 Russians were helped to leave Israel through Egypt and Jordan. 85 people left Iraq," she said.
Zakharova expressed gratitude to the authorities of Iran, Israel, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Egypt, Jordan, Iraq and Turkmenistan for the assistance provided.
