Baku launches criminal case over Sputnik Azerbaijan case

Seven people have been detained in an operational-search event conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) at the Baku branch of the “Rossiya Segodnya” Information Agency (“Sputnik Azerbaijan”).

Axar.az informs, citing APА, a criminal case has been initiated under the articles of the Criminal Code related to fraud, illegal entrepreneurship, and legalization of property obtained by criminal means, and two individuals have been arrested, and five others have been held criminally liable.

Investigative actions are ongoing in the criminal case.

Note that according to the Press Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, although the accreditation of the Baku branch of the “Rossiya Seqodnya” Information Agency (“Sputnik Azerbaijan”) was suspended in February 2025, the Ministry of Internal Affairs launched an investigation based on received operational information that it continued its activities through illegal financing.
