The Speaker of the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, met with the Chairperson of the Senate of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis, Tanzila Narbayeva, in the city of Khiva, Uzbekistan.
Axar.az reports that the meeting highlighted the significance of the First Uzbekistan-Azerbaijan Interparliamentary Forum, expressing confidence that the event would become an effective mechanism for cooperation between the two parliaments. They noted that the discussions and proposals put forward within the framework of the Forum would contribute to further deepening the cooperative relations between the legislative bodies.
During the conversation, they hailed the high level of relations between the two countries and their peoples. They emphasized that these relations are rooted in shared historical, religious, and cultural values. The parliamentary speakers specifically noted the role of the heads of state in strengthening these ties, stating that thanks to the strong will of the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, bilateral relations have entered a new phase. They highlighted that the regular contacts and mutual visits of the two countries’ presidents have ensured further deepening of relations, and today, the two nations successfully cooperate in many areas.
The meeting also underscored that the high-level relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan are successfully continued at the parliamentary level. The speakers emphasized that such meetings and contacts between deputies contribute to the development of these relations.
Tanzila Narbayeva, Chairperson of the Senate of Uzbekistan’s Oliy Majlis, also described the Forum as an indicator of the high level of relations between the legislative bodies.
They noted that the signing of the "Agreement on Cooperation between the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan," as well as the "Roadmap" for the development of interparliamentary cooperation, clearly demonstrates the importance both sides attach to advancing mutual relations.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
