WhatsApp has announced new security features designed to strengthen account protection, including stronger two-step verification and additional information about calls from unknown numbers.

Axar.az reports, citing Meta Store, that the messaging platform has upgraded its two-step verification from a six-digit PIN to a full password that can contain letters, numbers and special characters, making it harder to guess.

On Android, users will also see more information when receiving calls from people outside their contacts, including whether the caller’s number is from another country and whether they share any groups.

WhatsApp also said more than 1 billion people have set up passkeys, which allow users to access their accounts using a fingerprint, Face ID or screen-lock code. Users with both Android and iOS devices can now add multiple passkeys to their accounts.

The company said it would continue developing tools to improve account security and give users greater control over their accounts.
