Nearly 850,000 refugees have returned to Syria since Bashar al-Assad was ousted from power in December 2024.

Axar.az informs that this was reported by a senior UN official, Kelly Clements

“In the coming weeks, this number could reach one million. The return of Syrians to their homeland is a dynamic process. It has made it possible to find a solution to the largest human migration in modern times,” she noted.

She added that the migration had lasted no less than 14 years. She also emphasized that 1.7 million internally displaced Syrians had also returned to their homes, which is happening because the current Syrian government controls most of the country.
