Russia believes that the Middle East conflict can only be resolved on the basis of a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine.

Axar.az reports Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated this in response to TASS’s request to comment on the recognition of Palestine by several Western countries.

“We remain committed to the fundamental UN resolutions and to the international position on the possibility of resolving the Palestinian-Israeli issue on the basis of a two-state approach,” the Kremlin representative said.

He stressed that Moscow considers this “the only possible path toward a settlement” of the conflict, which is now experiencing “perhaps the most acute and tragic phase in its history.”

On September 21, the prime ministers of Australia, the United Kingdom, and Canada announced their recognition of Palestinian statehood, followed later by Portugal’s foreign minister.
