Lavrov: Assad in Russia for humanitarian reasons

Former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his family are in Russia for humanitarian reasons, as he faced threats to his life. Rumors claiming he was poisoned in Russia are false.

Axar.az informs this was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said during a meeting with journalists from Arab countries.

“Bashar al-Assad is in Russia for humanitarian reasons. He and his family faced a serious threat to their lives,” Lavrov said. “We offered them asylum purely on humanitarian grounds.”
