The IDF confirmed that all 20 living Israeli hostages held by Hamas have safely returned to Israeli territory, completing the first stage of the ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal brokered under U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace plan.
Axar.az, citing JP, reports that the handover occurred in two rounds, facilitated by the International Red Cross, and followed the IDF’s partial withdrawal from Gaza — a key condition of the agreement. The released hostages are undergoing medical checks before reuniting with families.
In exchange, around 2,000 Palestinian prisoners are being released to Gaza, the West Bank, and other countries including Qatar and Turkey. The progress raises hopes that the ceasefire will hold, though questions remain over Gaza’s future governance and Hamas’s disarmament.
Trump is expected to address the Israeli Knesset later today following his arrival in Israel.
