Trump declines to comment on Taiwan's defense

US President Donald Trump said he would not answer a question about the possibility of using American military forces to defend Taiwan in the event of an armed conflict between Taiwan and China.

Axar.az reports that he said this in an interview with CBS News.

Trump was asked whether this issue was discussed during his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping and whether he would order the US military to defend Taiwan in the event of a conflict in the Taiwan Strait.

"If it happens, you will know. And Xi Jinping understands the answer to this question," the White House chief of staff said.

Trump noted that the Taiwan issue was not raised during his talks with the Chinese leader:

"He did not bring it up. People were a little surprised by it. He never brought it up because he understood it."
