The UK has thanked Azerbaijan for its contribution to uniting the world community to fight climate change at COP29.

Axar.az reports that this was noted in a post on X by the British Embassy in Baku.

"As Azerbaijan hands over the COP presidency to Brazil, the UK thanks the Azerbaijani presidency of COP29 in Baku for uniting the world community to advance climate action last year.

From Baku to Belém and then London, we continue to stimulate global ambition to keep (global warming) to 1.5 °C," the British diplomatic mission said in a statement.

It should be noted that the 30th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30) started today in Belém, Brazil.

COP29 was previously held in Azerbaijan.
