President Talon: Situation fully under control

An attempted coup d’état has been prevented in Benin.

Axar.az reports that President Patrice Talon announced this in an address to the nation broadcast on national television.

Talon stressed that the authorities have full control over the situation across the country:

“A small group of military personnel staged an uprising, and it was suppressed by our army. All centers of the coup have been cleared. The act of treason committed by the rebels will not go unpunished. The situation is completely under control. Security and public order will be ensured throughout the entire territory.”

The President of Benin added that citizens can safely continue their daily activities.

It should be noted that on the morning of December 7, soldiers of the Republic of Benin announced on national television that they had carried out a coup and removed President Patrice Talon from office. However, it soon became clear that the coup attempt had failed.
