Poland detains Russian archaeologist wanted by Ukraine

A Russian archaeologist working at the Hermitage Museum has been detained in Poland at Kyiv’s request.

Axar.az informs the arrest took place last week, the Polish radio station RMF FM reported, citing sources.

"Alexander B. was detained by officers of the Internal Security Agency at a hotel in Warsaw. He was wanted by the Ukrainian authorities for conducting illegal archaeological excavations in occupied Crimea,” the report said.

Kyiv will seek the extradition of the scholar, whom it accuses of destroying cultural heritage sites in Crimea. The damage is estimated at more than 200 million hryvnias, the report said.
