Under a fast-track plan discussed in US-mediated peace talks, Ukraine could join the European Union by January 1, 2027.

It is noted that such a step would require a rewriting of the bloc’s accession procedures.

According to sources familiar with the document, this provision is included in the latest draft of the peace proposal being discussed by US and Ukrainian officials with the support of Brussels.

It was also reported that the United States would back Ukraine’s EU membership:

“US President Donald Trump will instruct Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban to lift his veto, which has so far blocked Ukraine’s European integration, and to allow Kyiv to begin the political approval process.”
