Portugal temporarily closes embassy in Iran

Portugal has decided to temporarily close its embassy in Iran for security reasons.

Axa.az reports that the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has published information about this.

"Contact has been made with all Portuguese citizens in that country. Eight people have already left Iran. Some citizens are about to leave the country, while 10 others (seven of whom have dual citizenship - Portuguese and Iranian) have decided to stay," the ministry said.

The MFA added that due to the current tense situation in the region and the threat of a potential armed conflict, any trips to Iran are strongly discouraged.
