Netherlands calls Trump’s Greenland tariffs ‘blackmail’

Donald Trump’s threats to impose additional trade tariffs on European countries to reach an agreement on Greenland’s transfer to the U.S. are blackmail.

Axar.az reports that this was stated by David van Veld, acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands.

“This is blackmail and unnecessary. It does not help NATO or Greenland itself. The Netherlands is surprised by Trump’s move. It is practically impossible to justify the application of tariffs. Allies should not treat each other in this way,” Van Veld said.

It should be noted that U.S. President Donald Trump announced that, starting February 1, a 10% tariff will be applied to Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Finland, and the Netherlands over Greenland.
