Azerbaijan’s decision to join the Peace Council proposed by US President Donald Trump is the right one.
Axar.az reports that political analyst Elkhan Shahinoglu stated this.
‘There are several reasons for this. First, saying “no” to Trump’s invitation would negatively affect relations between the two countries, which are moving toward a strategic partnership, and refusing membership in the Peace Council would run counter to Azerbaijan’s interests in the current geopolitical reality. Second, in October last year, Donald Trump invited Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to the Middle East Peace Summit held in Egypt. Through this, Trump expressed his desire for Azerbaijan to participate in the Middle East peace process. Although Ilham Aliyev stated that Azerbaijani troops would not be sent to Gaza, Azerbaijan has not refused to take part in the reconstruction of Gaza.
Third, Donald Trump does not want the Peace Council to be limited to Gaza. He and his administration believe that the Peace Council could eventually replace the UN. Azerbaijan should not remain outside the process of shaping a new global security architecture led by the United States, a superpower.
Fourth, Armenia, as well as Azerbaijan’s allies Turkiye, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan, have also responded positively to Trump’s proposal,’ the analyst emphasized.
