U.S. President Donald Trump warned that Britain’s growing business ties with China are “very dangerous,” as Prime Minister Keir Starmer praised progress made during his visit to Beijing.
Axar.az, citing Reuters, reports that Starmer, the first UK prime minister to visit China since 2018, said talks with President Xi Jinping marked a reset in relations, citing gains such as visa-free travel and reduced whisky tariffs.
While Washington has voiced concern and scepticism about the economic benefits, Starmer stressed that Britain is not choosing between the U.S. and China and can maintain close ties with both.
His China outreach comes as Western allies are unsettled by Trump’s tariff threats and foreign policy unpredictability.
