PM: Foreign financing of politics violates sovereignty

The external financing of a Georgian citizen’s political activities violates the principle of state sovereignty. Therefore, the government’s constitutional obligation to protect the country’s sovereignty comes into play.

Axar.az reports that this was stated by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.

According to him, if a student receives a scholarship, the legislative changes will not affect them, and claims that everyone receiving any kind of funding will be impacted by the amendments are false:

“The law states that politics must not be financed from abroad. If a specific individual receives foreign funding to disseminate political content, this may, of course, become subject to legal regulation.”
