The Trump administration will add 65,000 H-2B seasonal guest worker visas through September 30, according to a Federal Register notice. These visas are intended for employers at risk of severe financial hardship due to a lack of U.S. labor.
Axar.az, citing Reuters, reports that the increase nearly doubles the 66,000 visas normally available each year for industries such as construction, hospitality, landscaping, and seafood processing. Employers in these sectors have struggled to find workers amid Trump’s strict immigration policies.
Trump, who returned to the White House in 2025, has pursued a broad immigration crackdown, targeting both undocumented immigrants and some forms of legal immigration. During previous periods of his presidency (2017–2021), the number of H-2B visas was also expanded at times, along with similar measures under former President Biden.
Some groups opposing immigration argue that the additional visas undercut wages for U.S. workers. Meanwhile, Trump has made H-1B visas for tech workers more expensive, imposing a $100,000 fee that has faced legal challenges. The temporary rule for the new H-2B visas will be officially published in the Federal Register on Tuesday.
