Ozgur Ozel's team resigns from party assembly

People close to former chairman of Turkiye’s main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), Ozgur Ozel, have decided to leave the party’s Council.

Axar.az reports, citing Turkish media, 28 of the 57 Council members reinstated under a court ruling of “absolute nullity” have resigned.

Under the CHP charter, if the number of Council members falls below two-thirds of the total membership (40 members), the party must hold a congress within 45 days.

It should be noted that a court annulled the results of the CHP’s 38th congress, held on November 4–5, 2023, and removed Ozgur Ozel from the party leadership.
