Trump says US has 'ended war' with Iran

US President Donald Trump claimed on Thursday that the United States has “ended the war” with Iran, following what he described as a breakthrough agreement to halt hostilities and prevent Tehran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

Axar.az reports, citing CNN, speaking during a telerally supporting Georgia Lt. Governor Burt Jones, Trump said, “I don’t know if you heard, but we ended the war with Iran today.”

He added that Iran had agreed to key U.S. demands on its nuclear program.

“They have agreed never to have a nuclear weapon, something that we insisted on; that was the whole purpose. That was 95 percent of it,” Trump said.

The remarks follow Trump’s earlier announcement that planned strikes on Iran had been cancelled after what he called a “very strong memorandum of understanding” between the parties.

Iran has not confirmed any agreement. Trump also indicated in a social media post that a U.S. blockade affecting maritime traffic linked to Iranian ports would remain in place until what he called “this Transaction is finalized.”
