Pakistan warns Houthis over Red Sea threats

Pakistan has condemned the continued threats by the Houthi militia against Saudi Arabia and commercial shipping in the Red Sea.

Axar.az reports that, in a statement issued on July 22, Pakistan's Foreign Ministry said such actions threaten regional security, undermine freedom of navigation, challenge the rules-based maritime order, and jeopardize the uninterrupted flow of global trade.

"Threats against commercial shipping and trade with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are unacceptable and violate established principles of international law. Pakistan is particularly concerned by reports of threats directed at vessels engaged in lawful commercial trade with the Kingdom," the statement said.

Pakistan reaffirmed that any hostile act against Pakistani-flagged vessels or Pakistan's maritime interests would be regarded as a serious threat to the country's national security and sovereignty.

"Consistent with the Charter of the United Nations and international law, Pakistan reserves the right to take all necessary measures, including the lawful use of force in self-defense, to protect its maritime assets and national interests," the ministry added.

Pakistan also expressed deep concern over attempts to draw Saudi Arabia into the conflict in the Middle East, reaffirming its unwavering support for the Kingdom's security, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and prosperity.
