Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), located in Armenia, has become highly hazardous for the South Caucasian, Central Asian, Caspian, and Black Sea littoral countries.

In the case of an accident at Metsamor NPP, which is expired and has not been repaired for years, a number of countries including Armenia itself will be exposed to the consequences of the nuclear accident. Regional countries as well as the European Union and international organizations have been warning against the threats posed by Metsamor, calling for measures to be taken to eliminate this danger that threatens millions of lives.

Furthermore, the existence of a nuclear power plant in Armenia is attractive to transnational smugglers of nuclear materials, creating ideal conditions for them to operate freely in the occupied Azerbaijani territories.

There are numerous facts of Armenian nuclear smugglers who attempt to sell radioactive materials outside Armenia. If such materials fell into the hands of terrorist organizations like IS and Al Qaeda, it is clear what would happen.

To eliminate all these threats and ensure security in the region, a group of bloggers have launched a signature collection campaign on change.org for the “Stop Metsamor” petition that calls for the closure of the nuclear power plant:

In addition, special pages have been opened for the campaign on Facebook and Twitter:

Activists urge the international community to support the campaign and not to remain indifferent to the threat posed by Mestamor NPP.
