First president of Crimea is dead

Crimea's first president, Yuri Meshkov, died at the age of 74.

Axar.az informs citing RIA Novosti.

Meshkov suffered from a stroke. He was receiving treatment in Krasnogorsk around Moscow.

Meshkov was president of Crimea in 1994-1995. Later, the Ukrainian Supreme Rada abolished the Crimean constitution and created an autonomous republic here. Meshkov then fled to Moscow.
