Kiev's plan to seize Crimea is doomed to failure, because the inhabitants of the peninsula want to remain part of Russia.

Axar.az reports that "The American Conservative" published information about this.

The publication said that the majority of Crimeans wanted to join Russia a long time ago, but the Kyiv government prevented it:

"The official referendum held in 1994 showed that about 80 percent of Crimeans want to unite with Russia. But the Ukrainian leadership reacted to the referendum by revoking Crimea's constitution, stripping it of its former autonomy. These steps increased the desire of local residents to rejoin Russia."
