EU stopped the process and aid for Tbilisi

The process of Georgia's integration into the European Union has been suspended. This was stated very clearly by EU leaders after the European Council summit.

Axar.az reports that these words were said by the EU Ambassador to Georgia, Pavel Gerchinsky.

"The intentions of the current Georgian government are not clear for EU leaders. The law "On transparency of foreign influence" is an obvious step backwards. "Unfortunately, the process of Georgia's accession to the EU has been stopped," he said.

He noted that the EU has frozen 30 million euros allocated to the Ministry of Defense of Georgia in accordance with the law "On Foreign Agents" and intends to reduce direct aid to the government and, at the same time, increase aid to the media and civil institutions:

"I hope that after the elections in Georgia in October, whatever happens, the newly formed government will start serious work towards EU integration again, and we will be able to ensure that Georgia will be part of the future enlargement."
