The opening ceremony of Chukurova Airport located in the south of Turkiye will take place on August 10 with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Axar.az reports that this was stated in the statement of the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkiye, Abdulgadir Uraloglu.

The new airport is designed to meet the needs of the residents of two southern provinces of Turkiye - Adana and Mersin. The capacity of Chukurova Airport will be 8 million passengers per year.

The head of the Ministry of Transport noted that the construction of the airport in Mersin province was carried out according to the "Construction-Business-Government" public-private partnership model.

244.5 million euros have been spent on the project, and payments from the land lease will bring 297 million 100 thousand euros to the state treasury over 25 years.

"The civil aviation sector is important for our country. There are 67 countries with a population of 1.4 billion within a 4-hour flight from Turkiye. By 2053, we plan to increase the number of active airports to 61," said the Turkish minister.

He noted that 3,000 people will be employed after the opening of the new airport.
