The Turkic World Common Alphabet Commission established by the Organization of Turkic States (TDT) has agreed on the proposal of the Common Turkish Alphabet consisting of 34 letters.

Axar.az reports that the Turkish Academy, located in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, issued a statement about this.

It was reported that the 3rd meeting of the Turkic World Joint Alphabet Commission was held in Baku on September 9-11.

In the statement, it was emphasized that the meeting attended by the members of the Turkic World Joint Alphabet Commission, made up of TDT member countries, was successfully completed. The main purpose of the meeting was to conclude the work on the common alphabet. Taking advantage of the information obtained in this field and the 2-year experience of the commission, an alphabet project for Turkish languages ​​was announced. An agreement was reached on the proposal of a common Turkish alphabet consisting of 34 letters.

According to information, the first initiative regarding the alphabet was put forward by scientists in 1991. It was emphasized that the Common Turkish Alphabet project based on the Latin alphabet was thoroughly reviewed and appropriate decisions were made by the members of the commission regarding the issues that should be prepared in this alphabet project. The statement states the following: "As a result of this selfless work, an agreement was reached regarding the proposal of the Common Turkish Alphabet consisting of 34 letters. Each letter in the proposed alphabet represents different phonemes found in Turkish languages.

It was stated that the alphabet promotes mutual understanding and cooperation between Turkic peoples.
