Elon Musk reportedly met with Iran's ambassador to the United Nations on Monday, just a day before former President Donald Trump appointed the SpaceX founder to lead the newly established Department of Government Efficiency.

Axar.az reports that according to two Iranian officials who spoke to the New York Times, the purpose of the meeting was to discuss ways to ease tensions between Iran and the United States. One official mentioned that Musk had requested the meeting, and the ambassador chose the location.

As Trump prepares to address ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, Musk, the world's wealthiest individual, has been playing a key role in talks with international officials, positioning himself as one of the most influential civilians in the U.S. come January.

Earlier this month, Musk also made an appearance during a call between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who expressed gratitude to Musk for providing Ukraine with Starlink satellites.
