At the G20 summit held in Rio de Janeiro, key points from the speech and statements of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who headed the Russian delegation, were shared.
Axar.az reports that Lavrov emphasized the significance of President Vladimir Putin signing Russia’s nuclear doctrine on the same day (November 19).
"Today, we officially published the nuclear doctrine. Everything has been confirmed there. What the president revealed publicly a month ago is now legally validated. I hope they will read this doctrine," Lavrov said.
He reaffirmed Russia's consistent stance on the inadmissibility of nuclear war, a principle unchanged since the Soviet era when Mikhail Gorbachev and Ronald Reagan declared that a nuclear war cannot be won:
"We consider nuclear weapons exclusively as a means of deterrence and strictly adhere to the principle of preventing nuclear conflict."
Lavrov also stated that the updated nuclear doctrine contains no unknown innovations for the West and aligns with established international standards for such documents.
He reiterated support for peace initiatives aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine:
"We are always ready to support those who declare their goals to be peace, not war. This is a worthy position, and we value it highly."
One of the summit's key topics was the necessity of reforms in international structures. According to Lavrov, most delegations from the Global South highlighted the dominance of Western countries in global institutions and called for combating inequality.
