At COP29 in Baku, developed countries worked to avoid delegating any responsibility for financing climate goals to developing countries.
Axar.az reports that the spokeswoman of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, said this while answering the relevant question of Baku TV at the weekly briefing.
According to him, one of the methods of the West was an attempt to expand the circle of donors at the expense of the big countries of the Global South.
"Abdication would largely absolve the colonial giants of their obligations to the most climate-vulnerable states. Look, this is neocolonialism that we are talking about, disagreeing with, and will fight against," said the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
It should be noted that earlier, within the framework of COP29, German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock made a number of provocative statements, including the proposal to transfer the EU's financial responsibility for climate financing to other participants in the negotiations.
"I think that our Azerbaijani colleagues were lucky that a 360-degree turn was not announced in this matter. Well, that would be a real number. Everyone would think, let's see how we do it. It's good that he managed to refrain from another stupid statement", - Zakharova commented on Berbok's statement.
