Ruling Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia Party has nominated Mikhail Kavelaishvili, a member of parliament and former footballer, as a candidate for the post of President of Georgia.

Axar.az reports that this announcement was made by Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder of the Georgian Dream Party, during a meeting held at the party's central office.

"I am pleased to announce that, based on the decision of the party's political council, I am putting forward the candidacy of Mikhail Kavelaishvili for the position of President of Georgia. Kavelaishvili will serve not foreign powers, but the interests of the Georgian state and its people," Ivanishvili stated.

It is worth mentioning that on November 26, the Georgian parliament confirmed that the presidential election will be held on December 14, and the inauguration ceremony will take place on December 29.
