Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, met with Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran, on the sidelines of the 15th plenary session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APА) in Baku.

Axar.az reports that during the meeting, Sahiba Gafarova expressed her confidence that Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf’s first visit to the country would contribute to fostering the relations between the two countries. She emphasized that the peoples of Azerbaijan and Iran share common historical, religious, and cultural values, which form the foundation of today’s relations and provide a profound basis for further expanding ties.

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf highlighted the significance of the 15th plenary session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APА) in Baku and the decisions put on the agenda.

The meeting also explored the expansion of relations between the parliaments as a key aspect of intergovernmental relations, as well as cooperation within international parliamentary organizations.

The sides discussed the new opportunities in the South Caucasus region. Both emphasized the importance of the "3+3" cooperation format initiated by Azerbaijan.

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf also expressed Iran’s full support for the "3+3" platform and his confidence that this format would contribute to peace and stability in the region, as well as to the development of political and economic cooperation.

The meeting further highlighted the importance of regional transport connections, including the North-South transport corridor and the road connection that will link East Zangezur with Nakhchivan.
