The countries of the South Caucasus are closely monitoring the development of the negotiation process between Russia and the U.S. If there is even a slight warming of relations, it will certainly affect the geopolitical balance in the South Caucasus.
Axar.az reports that Russian political scientist Evgeny Mikhaylov commented on the potential impact of improved relations between Russia and the U.S. on the South Caucasus region.
"It is clear that Armenia will receive less support. After the failed support of the Ukrainian regime, France will no longer focus on the Armenian state. I think the support from the European Union will sharply decrease. Armenia may reconsider and fulfill all the terms of the agreement under Moscow's guarantee between Yerevan and Baku. The Zangezur corridor will be opened, borders will be established, and there will be some balance of peace in the region. Yerevan is waiting for the negotiation process on Ukraine because Europe is weakening and the United States is far away. Russia, Azerbaijan, Turkiye, and Georgia, which has also taken a position of protecting its own national interests, are nearby. Therefore, I think the 3+3 format will likely develop, and peace will come to the region. Also, if relations between Russia and the U.S. warm up, I am sure it will also affect Iran. Russia will be able to act as a mediator between Iran and the U.S. to stabilize the situation in the region," the expert noted.
