Axar.az reports that this was stated by Nazim Mahmudov, head of the National Hydrometeorological Service.
It was noted that the record frost was recorded in February 2012.
The lowest temperature in February over the past 40 years was recorded in 2012, and the frosty weather that began on February 1 lasted for 13 days. The minimum air temperature in Baku on February 8 was minus 11 degrees, thus renewing the record of February 9-10, 1969 (9.6 degrees of frost).
In February 2014, the frosty period lasted for 8 days, and the lowest temperature was minus 7.6 degrees.
"In subsequent years, the minimum air temperature was recorded at 5.5 degrees Celsius in 2021, 3.4 degrees Celsius in 2017, 3.1 degrees Celsius in 2023, and 2.8 degrees Celsius in 2024. However, in the mentioned years, the duration of the frosty period in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula was 1-3 days. This year, the frosty weather, which began on February 20, will last for several days," the report said.
