Imprisoned Imamoğlu faces presidential candidacy block

Ekrem İmamoğlu no longer has a chance in the presidential elections. He is currently in prison, does not have a diploma, and only possesses a high school certificate. It is not possible to run for president with just a high school certificate.

Axar.az reports that Turkish journalist Murat Özer made this statement.

He noted that under the laws of the Republic of Turkiye, a person sentenced to one year in prison cannot run for president:

"It is unclear how long his imprisonment will last, but even if he receives a one-year sentence, he will not be eligible to run for president. After his release, he must wait at least three years before applying.

Whether Ekrem İmamoğlu is convicted or not, he cannot be a candidate in the upcoming elections. Legally, it is impossible. Naturally, both Mansur Yavaş and Özgür Özel are pleased with this situation. I even believe that Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu is very happy.

In fact, Ekrem İmamoğlu, who claimed to have received 15 million votes in the March 23 primary election (CHP’s internal election to determine a presidential candidate), has been sent to the Marmara prison in Silivri. This shows how happy Özgür Özel is about the situation. This issue will continue like this, but eventually, everything will calm down, and they will return to their party congresses while Ekrem İmamoğlu is forgotten in Silivri prison."
