The rap clip “Freedom or Death” released by the Baku Initiative Group (BIG) on March 13 has sparked significant controversy in French political circles.
Axar.az reports that various French media outlets have already published reports on the issue.
The lyrics of the rap “Liberté ou Mort”, along with photos depicting events of 2024, have been classified as incitement to violence and hatred, prompting an official investigation.
New Caledonia’s prosecutor, Yves Dupas, has decided to transfer the case to the Paris court.
However, the clip contains nothing beyond highlighting France’s colonial policies.
It should be noted that the Baku Initiative Group presents itself as a non-governmental organization actively involved in issues of decolonization and human rights, particularly in France’s overseas territories, including New Caledonia.
Since 2023, the Baku Initiative Group has achieved significant results in its activities. The organization’s primary goal is to support the struggles of people in various colonized regions fighting for independence. It has made substantial contributions to the fight against neocolonialism, with one of the clearest examples being France’s retreat, despite its historical reputation as a colonial power.
